DMR Seals Ltd is a UK based manufacturer of engineered sealing solutions, offering a wide range of products including high performance O-Rings, Spring Energised Seals, Guide Rings, Rotary Shaft Seals, Wiper Seals, Rod Seals, Piston Seals, Back-up Rings, PTFE Seals and other high-performance seal parts.
Their industry recognised seals are used across a broad range of industries including Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Food, Pharmaceutical, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
DMR Seals had become aware of the requirements of HSE regarding metalworking fluids and the potential risks to their staff. They wanted to ensure the handling and use of coolants and biocides by operatives were in full compliance with HSE guidelines. DMR also wanted to ensure that they were maximising the lifespan of their tooling equipment.
After an on-site assessment, DMR Seals wanted to be in control of testing their coolant themselves, but needed their production staff to fully understand the issues that could arise and how to undertake any required remedial actions.
Our Technical Sales Engineer, Dale Fletcher provided PROCARE Fluid Management training, which was completed on site. This training included how to calibrate and read a refractometer, conduct weekly pH and dilution checks, and how to interpret dipslide results and reports. Operators were shown how to manage acceptable levels of tramp oil, and how to remove tramp oil from the surface of the coolant if required.
As part of PROCARE Self-Serv, DMR Seals were provided with all the equipment needed to conduct coolant checks, which are then sent to our laboratory for testing. Personnel receive emailed reports direct from us, indicating current levels and detailing any remedial actions that need to be carried out.
Since all staff completed on-site training, they now fully understand the why, what and how of managing their metalworking fluids. The training given by Pennine has meant that all operatives are fully engaged with DMR’s fluid management regime. The results are presented to production staff, so they can action any areas of concern immediately. The fluid results also act as a record of the condition of their metalworking fluids and how they manage them.
