Our chosen charity, Sheffield Dog Rescue is very close to the heart of our sales administrator, Emma. One year ago, Emma and her husband adopted Bella, a little Staffordshire bull terrier from Sheffield Dog Rescue and could see that the small group of volunteers there were working so hard to make sure that each dog they take in find their forever home.
They receive dogs from East Derbyshire Dog Wardens and from members of the public who want help to rehome their pet. They try to help as many dogs as they can, but kennel space can make it difficult. They operate a no kill policy so none of the dogs they receive are destroyed, unless they are advised to do so by the vet for health reasons.
Sheffield Dog Rescue has re-homed hundreds of dogs since they established in 1984. They rely completely on donations from the public and takings from their shop in Chesterfield.
Sam and Amy two of the volunteers kindly showed myself and Emma around the rescue and we were lucky enough to meet some of the dogs they are looking after at the moment. Some have found their forever homes and are looking forward to a cosy Christmas with their new family. There are others, like Spud who we met whilst at the rescue that still need adopting and they expect to receive more dogs over the festive season.
If you’re thinking of a new dog, Sheffield Dog Rescue urge you to consider adopting a dog. You can find more information about each of the dogs that need re-homing on their website here or by calling 07748 620740.
